Hair Drug Test (Hair Follicle)
Hair drug testing (hair follicle) is another very effective and accurate method to screen for users of drugs of abuse. By using a small sample of hair, typically cut from the scalp, hair analysis reveals the amount of drug metabolites contained inside the hair shaft. Body hair may also be used if head hair is unavailable from the donor. External adulterants (e.g., bleaches, shampoos, and other external contaminants) do not impact test results, so ability to tamper with tests is greatly reduced.
For every 1/2-inch of head hair collected, a 30-day history of drug use can be detected. The industry standard for this type of hair drug test uses a 1.5-inch head hair sample and typically includes the following drug drug panel:
- Amphetamines (including Ecstasy)
- Phencyclidine (PCP)
Additional drug panels are available upon request to include additional drugs in a higher-panel hair drug test screen (hair follicle). Please call us for more information on this type of test.
